The Joint Parish Council of Beaudesert and Henley-in-Arden pursues
and implements policies that safeguard and enhance the environment of the town and promotes tourism and business. The Council encourages its residents to participate
in all matters that affect the town and time is always allocated for public discussion at all the meetings.
At the parish council election in May 2015, 12 Henley Together candidates were elected
for a four year term. Henley Together has now been closed down and all councillors will operate as independents in the future.
At the parish Council meeting on 16th January 2017, Cllr John Garner (Portfolio holder for Finance and Assets) presented the JPC budget for the fiscal year 2016/7. He told the Council that he was recommending that this year there should be an increase in the Precept (Parish Council Tax); this was following discussions about giving greater financial support to the town’s organisations. The council agreed to an increase in the Precept to £115,000 per annum. The JPC Precept is collected by SDC as part of the Council Tax.
Community Grants remain an important way that the JPC should support many of the excellent organisations in the Town so a contribution of £8,000 was agreed for Henley Library and £20,000 for the Hub in order that these worthwhile organisations can continue to function. There remains a further £18,500 (including mini-grants) available for grants to other organisations.
The Children’s playground reserve has been increased to £10,000 for the future replacement of the children's playground equipment as significant expenditure is planned in this area.
Total Reserves of the Council at the end of 2016/17 would be circa £72,000.
The Budget and Precept were proposed by Cllr Garner and seconded by the Chairman. It was carried unanimously.
